The Day I Realised I Wasn’t Meant to Push Through

There was a time I thought feeling overwhelmed was just part of being a mum.

The constant mental tabs open. The invisible load. The way my body felt wired, but exhausted at the same time.

I told myself to push through. To be more organised. To get up earlier. To try harder. Because that’s what we’re taught, right?

But no one really talks about what it feels like when your nervous system is constantly in overdrive.

When even rest doesn’t feel restful. When sitting down to “relax” somehow makes your mind louder.

When you’re physically there with your family… but internally, you feel stretched thin.

I remember thinking, surely it’s not meant to feel like this.

And that was the moment something shifted.

Not overnight. Not dramatically. But quietly … I started listening to my body instead of overriding it.

What I’ve come to understand is this:

Your nervous system isn’t working against you. It’s trying to protect you.

The overwhelm, the irritability, the inability to switch off - they’re not flaws.

They’re signals.

And for busy mums, especially, we’ve become so used to ignoring those signals that we don’t even realise we’re living in a constant state of stress.

Not because we’re doing life wrong… But because we’ve never been shown another way.

So I stopped trying to fix myself. And started supporting my nervous system instead.

Not with complicated routines. Not with hours of meditation I couldn’t stick to.

But with small, real, doable moments.

Taking a breath before reacting. Stepping outside for a minute of fresh air.

Letting myself pause without guilt. Putting my hand on my heart and actually checking in.

Simple things… but super powerful.

Because regulation isn’t about escaping your life.

It’s about feeling safe inside it.

And when your body starts to feel safe, everything changes.

You respond instead of react. You soften instead of snap. You feel clearer, calmer… more like yourself again.

This is the work I keep coming back to.

Not perfection. Not pressure.

Just support.

And it’s also the reason I’ve created something gentle for the days when it all feels like too much.

A five-day nervous system reset for busy mums - something you can come back to in your own time, in your own space. Simple practices, guided audio, and small moments to help you reconnect, regulate, and feel supported… without needing hours you don’t have.

If you’ve been feeling stretched, overwhelmed, or like you’ve lost a little bit of yourself in the noise… this might be place to start.
