Deepen Your Connection to Soul
Steps to Set Up Your Sacred Space
Jess Sermak
Creating a sacred special place in your home has never been as important as it is today with all of the daily stressors and people have constant access to us via phone and email.
Finding a place where you can go and relax surrounded by the things you love to reflect on and experience inner peace can be one of the greatest gifts you can give to your relationship with self! It's also so important to have a space where you can escape the kids! They can be so energetically draining sometimes!
For some of you, you may have the space to create a sacred room or corner of your office. For others of you who are limited on space, you might only have room for a small altar.
What matters is how the sacred space makes you feel and the intentions you set for that space. It is a place for you to feel nurtured on your spiritual journey and to receive energetic nourishment from your spirit team, the angels and God. A place to rest, restore and get close to your soul so that you can feel in and hear her guidance.
1. Designate an Area
Where you decide to designate your sacred space is entirely up to you and will vary depending on how much space you have in your home. Don’t feel like there’s no point in creating your sacred space if you have limited room in your house.
We all start somewhere, even if it's just a small altar in your bedroom or a corner of the lounge. I promise you that creating a sacred space in your home will help develop your spiritual connection and assist in creating a daily connection ritual.
If you aren’t quite sure where to set it up, stop for a moment, take a few deep breaths, drop your awareness to your heart chakra and ask yourself where you would like your new sacred space to be right now? Nothing is set in stone, so don’t feel like you can’t move it later…
Some suggestions include,
If you find your personal sacred space works well for you, then why not consider creating a family altar or sacred area in your house? This can serve to deepen the intimacy and soul connections between family members. Make sure each family member contributes at least one thing that holds a special meaning to them.
2. Set the Intention for Your Sacred Space
Now that you have decided where your new sacred space is going to be, it’s time to decide what it is that you want from your sacred space? Is it a place to meditate, practice yoga, receive messages from your spirit team, conduct daily or weekly rituals or ceremonies?
Setting the intention for the space will help you decide what to put in it. For example, if it's to practice yoga every day, then you will need to put the things you would need for your yoga practice, like a mat, blocks, bolster etc.
If it’s a place to meditate, then you will most likely need a comfortable chair or cushion. If you only have the space for an altar, it's a good idea to have a comfortable lounge or cushion handy.
So have a think about what your intention for the space is so that you have a clearer vision of what to fill it with!
3. Include items that have personal meaning & that you absolutely love!
There are lots of things you can include in your sacred space and this will vary depending on how much space you actually have.
What’s important to remember here is that this is your space, so put aside the judgment and fear that can often rear its ugly head and experiment with what intuitively you feel you need in this space.
I just want to add here that many of us who have chosen to incarnate in this lifetime and are beginning to awaken have been persecuted in previous lifetimes. Many of us feel afraid to step into our spirituality because, more often than not, we have been killed in previous lives for being authentically ourselves. Many of us hold the scars of the white witch who was killed for her beliefs.
I know for me I had this intense fear of stepping into my spirituality because deep down I felt I might be found out again and persecuted! I have delved deep into some of my past lives and discovered that I have been drowned with a soul I now have a close relationship in this lifetime with.
If you can release past life persecutions and past life soul contracts get in contact with me I'm more than happy to help. But the purpose of sharing this here is to encourage you to experiment in your sacred safe space with the correct tools for grounding and protection which I do share on my website. So, if you would like to do a spell with your cauldron or use a crystal ball or experiment with oracle cards, do it! You will either love it or hate it, but either way you will find out!
When deciding on what to put in your sacred space, it’s also helpful to think about connecting with your five senses. If you need help, I have created 7 gorgeous spiritual gift boxes to help get you started.
4. Create a routine
I hear it far too often; women saying they don’t have time for meditation, or another common one is that I don’t know how to do it!
I’m here to tell you that if you don’t make the time you will never find it. There’s an old Zen saying that
“You should sit in mediation for 20 minutes a day. Unless you’re too busy, then you should sit for an hour.”
I love this because it’s so true if your that busy that you can’t find 20 minutes in your day for your inner work, then you are probably doing too much.
Being a Mum to 3 kids, a wife, and working all takes its toll on you. Each person and task has an energetic exchange and more often than not, as women, we seem to give them our energy but receive very little or no energy in exchange. That’s why those first few weeks of having a baby can feel like we are running on empty, gosh their cute but they don’t give you anything back in return for the love and care you give them.!
The point here, however, is that you need to make time to meditate, you need to create a ritual and commit to it! We all have 24 hours in the day. It's how each of us chooses to use that time that determines the person we become.
For me, I take 20 minutes in the morning after the chaos of the school drop off. And if my youngest isn’t at Kindy, I do it during her nap or I give her an activity to do whilst I go away and mediate. Sometimes I get 3 minutes. Sometimes she gives me 10, but something is better than nothing!
Final Thoughts
Now it’s your turn! Get creative and have fun with it! Just bear in mind that there is no right or wrong way to do this. It's your space, so make it your own!
It’s not uncommon too for people to set up a space and find that they move it down the track later. It’s all about experimenting and determining what works best for you and your situation.
